Today I wanted to share the significance of The Star card, but additionally I wanted to give some background on why I chose this particular card for discussion. Recently, I have really been noticing all of the signs and symbols that I see around me. Symbology has always fascinated me, but lately it seems like the Universe is trying hard to point certain things out to me. When I see the same words, images, animals or other indicators that stand out over and over again, I take note. Over the past few days, I was fortunate enough to be able to get away and spend a few days in nature. It seemed like I was spotting images of the five pointed star almost everywhere I went. Additionally, the frog kept popping up (no pun intended.) I am sharing pictures of some of the stars and frogs that I actually came across. It occurred to me that they both have significance in relationship to the beautiful Star Tarot card. So…
The Star card is almost always a positive omen when it comes up in a tarot spread. While every card has almost infinite interpretations, traditionally the words that best represent it are hope and faith. I haven’t had a whole lot of that lately. In fact, I have been feeling rather defeated and being very critical and hard on myself. As this star shape kept appearing before me in various unexpected places, I began to feel that the Universe was trying to tell me to remember to be optimistic and maintain my sense of peace. I also think of the five points of the star as being representative of air, fire, water, earth and Spirit. These things are all connected. When I look at the image of The Star tarot card, I am struck by the woman’s comfort with her place in nature. The clear air around her, the ground below her, her foot in the water and the fire in the star shining down on her from above all seem to illuminate her gentle spirit and peace with her surroundings. She tells me to get out and connect with nature. She reminds me that we are all made up of the very stars and are all connected to one another. She speaks to us all and says that we should never feel ashamed to shine our own inner light. We should never feel as though we have to hide our hopes and dreams. The Star prompts us to uplift our spirits and seeing the repeating star symbol certainly uplifted mine. Well, how in the world does a frog fit in to this? I know that if I meditate on something long enough, it usually comes to me and I finally got it this morning. Frogs are creatures of both land and water. I couldn’t help but think of the woman in The Star card with her one foot on the ground and one in the water. She tells us to trust our intuition (water) but to stay grounded as well (earth). She and the frog are both connected to the elements and flow easily between them. Frogs also go through a major transformation or metamorphosis. They can be telling you that it is time for a change and to come into your own creative power. I certainly do feel like it is time for me to make some serious transitions in my own life. Another thought about the frog as an animal totem or messenger…they are extremely sensitive to sound. They also make an unusual and distinct sound which I have always loved. A simple message for me from this is that I just need to listen to what my emotions and intuition are trying to tell me. The Divine Universe is always trying to speak to us. It uses signs and symbols like the star and the frog to send us messages and encouragement if we will only listen, see, trust and believe. Tarot works in much the same way. When you are feeling alone and disconnected, meditate on The Star card and try to reconnect with nature. She will remind you that you have an important place in the universe and that you were created to let your light shine. Have hope and keep the faith. Many Blessings, Ember
