This morning one of the loudest thunder storms that I have ever heard seemed to park over my house for an indescribably long amount of time. I love thunder storms so I am not complaining, but it did inspire me to post a little mythology in honor of Thor, rather than a card of the day. Thor is one of the more important Norse deities and one of the chief defenders of the realms of Asgard. He is not only the defender of the Aesir pantheon, but of the masses as well. He is the protector of all because that is just what he does. He is the ultimate and vigilant protector of laws, homes, land and civilization in general. Thor is also known as a deity of war, thunder, sky, storms, sea journeys and the administration of justice. He is the defender of the dead and the image of his hammer Mjollnir has been carved onto memorial stones. You might call on him for protection from fire and lightening. As a giant killer he is the ideal deity to ask for help if you are being bullied or picked on. In thanks you might leave him an offering of Thor's Hammer Vodka, but since he has the reputation of a serious drinker, I believe any offering of beer or mead would greatly please him. Just make sure that it is given with sincerity. I do wish that this post had fallen on a Thursday, as that is "Thor's Day," but I can at least give a good, "All Hail" shout out. Thank you Thor, for the fabulous display of nature this morning. I am sure that California would greatly appreciate some of this Kentucky rain if you have a chance. ;) Blessings!
